You’ve posted on social media, now what?

This morning I was reading a post from my Brand Coach and Co-Founder of Root + River, Justin Foster. He said, “Injustice in our country must be addressed. It begins, as all deep work does, by looking inward.”

Justin has a gift with language, and his words inspired me to critically consider the work I am doing from my new platform and how I leverage my voice to create change in our world.

My mission is for my work and my life to be a catalyst for an entire generation to rise up and step fully into their purpose. And like Justin, I believe this work starts by looking inward.

I also believe in transparency and honesty. This is why I am doing this work myself, and acknowledging that when it comes to social justice and racism, I have so much inner work to do.

Looking inward requires reflection. Reflection is a skill that allows you to listen to your soul. I teach this skill to everyone of my clients. I also practice what I teach.

It isn’t always easy to tune into what my soul is saying. Some days I get overwhelmed by all the external noise and completely miss what my soul is whispering to me.

This practice is confronting. It’s uncomfortable. It’s messy. And It’s worth it.

Often times, when I look inward, I discover how far I have strayed from Truth, from my soul’s true Knowing. I find unconscious bias, racism, prejudice, fear, hate, self-centeredness. This can lead to shame, denial, inaction, and self-soothing.

Or it can lead to growth. But growth requires courage.  It also requires the humility and willingness to learn, unlearn, redo, undo, pivot, and follow where the flow of where my soul takes me.

It’s time to step into this messy work together. The world needs it now more than ever.

I’m inviting you into this work with me, and I’m offering some questions that I adapted from Root + River’s post to support my own reflection.

    • What is within me that I don’t want to look at?

    • What assumptions have I made that may not be true?

    • How is fear showing up in my life and my decisions?

    • How is my reality different from others?

I challenge you to share these questions with your friends. Start a dialogue within your spheres of influence. This work can’t end with going inward, we must all rise up and create change in our world through conscious action.
